Klout released their much anticipated brand pages today. Please help me to get on the first one by visiting here and giving me +K in Klout!
This opens a fascinating new chapter in the book of development and definition of “online influence”.
An interesting mashup whereby brands, their supporters and Klout itself can all gain influence via these new pages. One can easily imagine that many many brands will want to take advantage of this new feature to brand themselves and to connect on a new level with those that are most interested in and supportive of them.
Klout pages work something like this.
Up till now certain brands have been designated as Klout topics (there are thousands of topics). There has been an “inluencer” leaderboard and also a +K leaderboard for these topics.
The new system integrates those 2 leaderboards into one. Thus the “influencers” about a brand will be chosen by a combination of their Klout algorithm and also +K recommendations given by their peers.
There are 3 leaderboards – a top 10, top 100 and a top 1000.
Brands will be able to see exactly who is inflential about them and reward those people with perks.
The new pages also feature content about the brand more prominently than the old system.
So it seems like a win win win for bands, consumers and Klout.
Klout is constantly innovating and has to as they have other companies challenging them to be the most influential judge of influence! I really love their lists feature but there are many many aspects to their website that are greatly underestimated.
So far Kred has been quick to clone Klout innovations such as the introduction +Kred so the first interesting thing to watch is whether they will also go down this path with company brand pages.
It will also be interesting to see exactly what perks are awarded to these top 10 and top 100 influencers. Klout is offering a Klout T-shirt to theirs but we might expect some more valuable rewards for those who talk most often and most influentially about the brands that Klout partners with in the months to come.
Social Media Marketing is constantly evolving and it may well be worth your brand’s while to get on board this initiative. It is very difficult to assess exactly what an “online buzz” around your band is worth but it would be difficult to deny that the value is growing every day.
At the very least check it out.
With all this I could not resist adding Klout as one of my 20 chosen topics. Please help me get a T-shirt by going here and giving me a +K and a tweet out about it would be very sweet too!. http://klout.com/mqtodd/topics
Many thanks and feel free to ask any questions about all this here.
