How the new media works as we hit 2012 (a discussion with @anisesmith)
Posted on December 30, 2011 by @mqtodd
Anise Smith, a QR Code marketing specialist in Philadelphia, is very probably the best in the world at getting as much as possible done online each day. Her knowledge of up to the minute tools and strategies and her level of content production, curation and engegement is better than anyone I have seen.
We had this discussion today that you will learn a huge amount from. Sheree is her Facebook friend who is a great writer but is not getting her content shared as much as she would like……
Anise Smith Going to start using my XeeMe account more..I have totally dropped the ball. Who’s on and what’s rocking with XeeMe?
Michael Q Todd 32,000 views on my Xeeme account and those viewers have clicked through to one of my 30 social accounts (often G+) over 10,000 times in 5 months. Nuff said !! Axel Schultze has created a monster

Anise Smith
Sherree Worrell I’m on it, but stopped using it. I was getting a bit turned off by the self-promoting emails I was receiving. Also, I’m not quite sure how to use it along with all of my other social accounts.
Anise Smith I signed up quite a while ago..but I thought it’s time to updated some stuff and use it more effectively.
Anise Smith Wow…self promoting emails… maybe disconnect from those people. It would be a shame not to work with a platform is you like it because of a few bad apples.
Michael Q Todd I do not bother checking them!
Sherree Worrell Michael – I get them all the time…Not from XeeMe, but from folks on Xeeme. That I don’t care for.
Anise Smith ohhh bummer…
Sherree Worrell One of the reasons I’ve stepped off Twitter and went back to G+ the past 2 months, was due to the irrational jump in self-promotion. You just can’t turn it off there, but you can on G+. I’m rethinking my social media perspective for 2012.
Anise Smith Sherree ..You may have to tweak your followers and weed out some people. I review my social media channels quite often. I am using Commun.it to help manage my Twitter and it is awesome. You should talk to Sharel Omer the founder of Commun.it…This platform has help with my Twitter experience so much.
Michael Q Todd I pretty much think that Anise and I are doing this social media thing the same way. We create and curate insanely great content all day. Have some “clients” who we help. Rest of the time we just hang out and are 100% open, random and supportive. I for example NEVER look at emails or ever search for anything anymore.
Michael Q Todd I have 20-30 people who I mainly support and promote. But I do it totally randomly. They are all creators and curators in my niche. In return they promote and support me. I never asked them to it just happens. Like Anise did for me here.
Anise Smith Exactly right Michael I left Eav for about 2 months because I needed to really look at my content, tweak my strategy plus work on some projects. While I was out I was able to seriously work on my social media strategy …Content, curation and clients
Michael Q Todd I do not think you need to “weed” people out. Jut be totally open and random and supportive. And ditch emails
. I get 1000′s of them every day and simply ignore them
Michael Q Todd Just went to Xeeme and yes Sheree there are literally zillions. Am I going to open one ? No. I went to gail about a week ago. Twitter DMS. 2-3 weeks ago. I am totally over them
Michael Q Todd I have never weeded anyone out. I follow back 100% everywhere
Anise Smith Totally get Social Media burn out..I think there are so many platforms…so much info out there..that was a part of my tweaking process. I am down to only using the platforms that really REALLY work for me. This really helps with the burn out
Sherree Worrell I don’t follow back 100% – never have, never will.
Michael Q Todd You see I do not have an inbox. FB and G+ notifications and Twitter mentions that is it. I am having 1 to 100,000 conversations never 1-1. When was the last time we messaged each other Anise?? 7 months ago? LOL
Michael Q Todd Blatant self promotion for probably my best ever blog post
http://michaelqtodd.com/followback
Anise Smith I do look at email but I don’t focus on it so much. I set up all of my emails to go through my gmail..and I set up serious blocks, and labels by importance, so I am able to really spend a short amount of time on emails. Labels really help with email if you select not to divorce email totally.
Sherree Worrell Anise That’s the thing – there are just too many platforms with too much info. I left Twitter, went to G+ (considerably better content/ conversations there) and started using FB more. Surprised myself for using FB much more than in the past. Found it’s quieter and much easier to manage…for now.
Sherree Worrell LoL Michael – at least you’re honest about your self-promo!
Michael Q Todd Email is great for when people want to share documents around
Anise Smith There are lot of platforms but I have been able to narrow down my usage. I use Facebook, G+, Twitter, Scoopit, Tumblr, WordPress, Commun.it, Empire Avenue
Sherree Worrell Michael I’ll check out both of the posts noted above. You always write good posts (yes, I’ve read some).
Anise Smith New adds Pinterest..
Michael Q Todd You are gonna love the new Bundlepost Anise. Incredibly cool. Will give you another 5-10 hours a week
Anise Smith I guess I am a bit of a new platform freak….LOL…I do try all new platforms but I usually only stick with the ones that help me to manage my social media time better.
Anise Smith I did read that you were using Bundlepost…do you have to use Hootsuite with that Michael
Michael Q Todd And Triberr is also rocking for us right Anise?
Anise Smith Triberr…seriously ROCKS
Michael Q Todd Yep. http://michaelqtodd.com/bundlepost there is an explanation here
Anise Smith I have been able to connect with some great blog posts by way of Triberr….and it is serious blog juice. I did a blog post on Triberr… Are you using it Sherree? http://anisesmithmarketing.com/2011/12/22/blog-traffic-think-tribe-go-triberr/
When I originally started blogging it was almost a forced effort on my part…
Michael Q Todd For me I am all over Instagram , Pinterest, Twylah, Foursquare and Stumble Upon as well as the ones you mentioned Anise. So all in all about 12 “must use ” tools
Sherree Worrell I’ve been on Pinterest for eons, have Twylah (don’t know quite how to use it properly even though Kelly explained it thoroughly), 4SQ, SU, etc. Heavens — have we missed anything? LOL
Anise Smith Sherree…Triberr is amazing if you have the right tribe. Tribe selection is the key to Triberr
Anise Smith Twylah is huge for the powertweets! LOVE it
Anise Smith Stumbleup is huge for Google Juice…
Anise Smith I am in 3 tribes that ROCK….similar and complementary content…is the key to Triberr
Michael Q Todd In a year or so when EVERYONE has a blog we will all need to be great writers AND great sharers. The more effectively we share other people’s stuff the more we will GET shared
Anise Smith Triberr has been really great for my blog especially since I lost a lot of followers when I moved from Posterous to WordPress.
Sherree Worrell HA! I remember when you “crossed over to the darkside” and went to WordPress. Did you let your Posterous folks know where you went?
Michael Q Todd BTW Anise you rock. I was telling my friend Kerry yesterday that you get as much done as ten people each week
Anise Smith I have 2 blogs on Free WordPress and 1 self hosted wordpress…..the free wordpress gets more juice than the self hosted.
Anise Smith Thank you Michael…I have started using some great time management tools..so it helps me to really press on
So there you go everyone do you get it? 12 platforms you have to be on. Decide your niche. Create better and better content daily. Curate with all the new tools. Socialise in a random, open, supportive way.
Michael
