Is there any “ROI” on your Social Media activity?
Posted on October 02, 2011 by @mqtodd
It is easy to look back at our last week in Social Media and ask slightly sceptically … “What was the ROI on all my Social Media activity in the past week?”.
We probably cannot see any dramatic new interest in our business or change in the world or huge increase in our “followers”.
I invite you to look a little at the big picture. What you posted did actually make a difference. It was not only you doing it. You were among others you see. You got shared you see. The reason you got shared is that you have had a previously consistent and valuable presence and that you have consistently promoted and shared others. Every day and in every day you are building a brand and nothing you do is ever wasted.
There is another important thing about being part of a group that was putting out the same message as you. It may be that you promoted and shared the latest funny cartoon on Facebok, Tumblr or Google+. Your action contributed to bringing a smile to the face and brightening the day of a friend and their friends. It may be that you liked or commented on a message or piece of content about something that was not necessarily being promoted and shared by the “traditional media”.
I made a short video about this here

So it is being completely unreasonable to yourself to belittle the effect that your actions have.
Of course we must reassess daily what we do, keep looking for better ways to share and get share and improving our content. Increasing our levels of visibilty and our activity. That goes without saying but never forget that you are an early adopter.
Still only around 5% of the world engage in any kind of Social Media activity in any given week. It is inevitable that this will grow rapidly over the coming months. What you are doing is worth it. You matter
